Labour’s rebuttal to the Green party this week sums up the double standard that dogs our politics | Frances Ryan Why is it that the politics of hope offered up by the left is dismissed as naive, while the policies of the centre and right are portrayed as all that is possible? asks Guardian columnist Frances Ryan

“Here’s the bias of politics: leftwing policies are portrayed as unrealistic and childish, while the centre and right’s ideas are framed as sensible and all that’s possible.”

My column on a system that welcomes Reform and dismisses the Greens as fantasy. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The Rockstar Workers Fired Before They Could Finish GTA 6
YouTube video by People Make Games The Rockstar Workers Fired Before They Could Finish GTA 6

I went to meet the 'Rockstar 31', the developers who were suddenly fired from their work on GTA 6 for what the studio has described as gross misconduct.

That's not what the workers call it though. They have another couple of words they prefer to use: union busting.

Once every 20 years or so, the director-general of the BBC is forced to resign for being insufficiently rightwing. Alastair Milne in 1987. Greg Dyke in 2004. Tim Davie in 2025. The great irony is that the BBC was in all cases profoundly biased towards established power. But just not biased enough …

79% of homes sold in Dublin this year were bought by landlords, 75% by large landlords. About 1 in 5 TDs are landlords.

This is disgusting dog whistling. The problem has never been people seeking asylum. The problem is people seeking to endlessly profit from folks just looking for a home.

Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein is, as expected, a masterpiece of gothic excess. But above all else it is a hugely sympathetic portrait that understands Mary Shelley's creature. The film asks for understanding to all those cast aside, neglected. It is a film not of absolution, but hope.

Lost in the Garden is my favourite debut horror novel since Tell Me I'm Worthless. A psychedelic 70's folk horror flick unfolding in dream-like prose. Highly recommended.

Charlie Kirk, Redeemed: A Political Class Finds Its Lost Cause By ignoring the rhetoric and actions of the Turning Point USA founder, pundits and politicians are sanitizing his legacy.

If you only read one piece today about how wrong Ezra Klein is when he claims Kirk did politics the right way, make it this piece by Ta-Nehisi Coates where he asks: “If you would look away from the words of Charlie Kirk, from what else would you look away?”

Superman isn't perfect, who cares? It has heart, feels lived in without feeling like an advertisement for other media properties and is exactly the film it wants to be while feeling relevant and necessary for the moment. Maybe it's maudlin, but the scene between Clarke and his father is moving.
