Yes. Thank you for that reminder. There is a strain of manliness culture that celebrates conquest and predation, if not necessarily sexual. When it's continuously consumed as found in pop media, it manifests in workplace behavior, especially among those with poor self and situational awareness.

A sheen of oil lays on top of a puddle of water made apparent by slowly melting snow. The oil, and other contaminants from transport related sources, seeps into soils, waterways, and ground water adding to the increasing burden of toxins already present in the Long Island region's ecosystems.

I walk my suburban neighborhood often. Tire noise of even a single vehicle is quite loud at 30ish mph. Knobby tires ... oh boy. Friends are surprised I walk because it's downright unpleasant on commercial roads where services are. And, let's not get started on the dust. Another hidden issue.
24.02.2026 22:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In fact, at least near me, cars are getting even louder from big tire noise (exacerbated by crumbling roads) and exhausts tuned for loudness to sound like race cars or 4 cylinder drift engines. Some even intentionally backfire like gunshot. Municipalities are spineless to enforce noise ordinances.

A woman picks her way on a narrow path between a home on her left buried under 6-10 feet of snow and a wall of snow on her right.
This is snow. Tahoe City, Cal. 2023. We will see what tomorrow and Monday bring NY way.
What we learned (and neglected) last snow:
Houses burned, we neglected fire hydrants that have to be cleared.
Sidewalks, bus stops, bike lanes uncleared for too long. We neglect those that don't use cars.
Definitely a pickleball.
Is that a pickleball in your pocket or are you happy to see me?
Yes.
