Have to take issue with #TheMediaShow.

If the BBC give Wesley Winter the validation of being invited on, @bbcrosatkins.bsky.social and Katie Razzall need to challenge him far more.

He's not a 'citizen journalist'. He's an agitator presenting his version of the truth for clicks and likes.

β€˜Nobody can afford’ Salford’s new high-rise flats, councillor says Bob Clarke, leader of Salford Conservatives, said it was 'not acceptable' for new high-density developments to have no affordable homes as people are priced out of the area

Rare I agree with a Conservative, but the man makes a good point.

Certain politicians around GM are keen to get foreign investment into the region without making sure it will actually benefit the residents.

I used to work in Greengate, and it's merely part of a wider problem.

Just caught a bit of @jeremyvine.bsky.social's Channel 5 show.

Said this before, but it's classed as part of Channel 5's news output.

How is anyone supposed to take it seriously when it's mainly Carole Malone performatively shouting at any question or point Jeremy puts to the panel?

Do any of my contacts have any experience of getting a book published?

I'm working on a project, and need some insights on the process of pitching an idea to publishers, where to go for certain genres, who to pitch to, etc, to inform what I do and the advice I give.

Thank you.

Past Lives Following two childhood friends over the course of 24 years while they contemplate the nature of their relationship as they grow apart, living different lives.

For anyone who missed it at the time it was released and was up for awards, the BBC aired 'Past Lives' last night, and it's now on iPlayer for the next 29 days.

Honestly one of the best films I've watched in a long time. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

About to rewatch it now.

Good day at @connective3.bsky.social's #UpNorth event yesterday.

In particular, I really liked Kate Manton's talk on how to view the integration of #AI into the workplace, and found Andreas Stefanou's talk on YouTube viewing habits and what the most engaging content is very insightful.

The loss of #HARDtalk and the reductions in the BBC World Service's foreign language radio output are a big blow to the UK's soft power around the world imho.

Just received Michael Taylor's TheBusinessDesk Friday High Five newsletter into my inbox.

He is spot-on with this point re. social media.

There's a reason why users are either using certain platforms less and less or leaving entirely, and it is in large part because of this.

Morning all,

Got back yesterday after being in Japan and South Korea, and am now raring to go again after seeing two brilliant new countries.

Talk to me if you need any support with #PR or #copywriting projects, or know of any relevant full-time roles around the North West.

β€˜I feel really, really cross at incredibly dumb decisions’: Stephen Sackur on the end of HARDtalk – and leaving the BBC For 19 years he has held the powerful to account on a show that attracts huge audiences around the world. Now it is over. He discusses his anger with management, his pride in his team – and what he’ll...

"...with the focus on live news, journalism is being reduced to β€œchurnalism” at the expense of more studied, groundbreaking work."

Fantastic chat with @stephensackur.bsky.social for @theguardian.com about one of the worst decisions the BBC has ever made imho: axing the ever-excellent HARDtalk.

White House takes control of press pool that covers Trump It will determine which outlets participate in the rotating pool that reports from the Oval Office and Air Force One.

Regardless of your political affiliation, this is objectively wrong - in a democracy, those in power should not get to decide who holds them to account.

Should also be said the WHCA is non-partisan, and counts Trump's friends at FOX News, OANN and NewsNation among its members.

The Psychology Of Laughter: Why Humor Sells During The Super Bowl Americans love American football as much as they love to laugh, and advertisers have noticed. This is why the funniest ads are a force in the cultural zeitgeist.

First thing I did this morning after watching #SuperBowlLIX last night was read this @forbes.com article by Sughnen Yongo on the power of laughter in advertising.

Agree wholeheartedly with Sughnen, and this was seen in last night's slate of #SuperBowl ads.

Can't help but feel Burnham's appearance on #BBCBreakfast this morning was somewhat disingenious - INEOS might not get taxpayer money for the stadium itself, but the scheme means taxpayers will be paying for all the infrastructure around the stadium #ManUtd would have otherwise had to pay for.

Shares in Daily Mirror owner Reach rise as it says it will beat profit forecasts Publisher was helped by strong digital advertising performance towards end of year, say analysts

All well and good Reach reporting bigger profits, but it's off the back of reducing journalist numbers and increasing the amount of ads on the websites in recent yrs.

Has made for bad UX, low-quality articles polluted by annoying ads and, ultimately, sites that readers don't want to visit imho.

How the BBC plans to protect Match of the Day's brand Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan have been announced as the three new presenters of the show.

Good article by the BBC's David Sillito recognising today's announcement that Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan taking over the presenting duties for #MOTD is not just a football story, it's also a media story about the BBC refreshing one of its flagship shows and building its 'brand'.

Good article by Jess Cartner-Morley.

The passages about everything having to be entertaining now spoke to me. Ultimately, some things are important and need to be paid attention regardless of if they'e entertaining or not.

It's why Gordon Brown was objectively a better PM than Boris Johnson.

On this, @laylamoran.bsky.social put it very well; if there is no version of an assisted dying bill some MPs would vote for (religious grounds, personal principle, etc), they should behonest about that.

Watching/listening to the assisted dying bill debate on iPlayer.

Strikes me some MPs are opposed to the bill on religious grounds or personal principle (which is fine) regardless of the bill's content who are then disingeniously picking apart the bill's content to suit their argument (not fine).

Ultimately, I'd say Trump and MrBeast want to avoid scrutiny too, hence why you or I wouldn't want to work with them.
