The sun sets over a remote unpopulated moorland with Cow Green reservoir and the high Pennine fells of Cross Fell and the Dun Fells on the horizon.

Last night I was out filming the Upper Teesdale Botany group doing plant surveys on Widdybank Fell. It was cold, windy and cloudy and then for the last five minutes of the day the sun broke through. A nice end to the day with such a lovely group of people. #Teesdale #flora #northpennines

I rolled out of bed at 3.30am for filming again. I didn't have much success and was again driven mad by midges. As I made my way back to the car I saw this scene. To capture the shot I needed to change lenses and the tripod head, so nearly didn't bother. Glad I did though. #landscapephotography

I think the shot would be more balanced without the fallen tree, it's a bit distracting. That said there is often a compromise to be made when it comes to nature setting the scene for us photographers. The next flood might move it so I can capture a comparison shot #Teesdale #LandscapePhotography

The old packhorse bridge at Grassholme reservoir is just starting to reappear as water levels drop due to the dry weather. Back in 2020 I got shots of the whole bridge out of the water, although that was down to a mixture of dry weather/Northumbrian Water working on the dam. #drought #heatwave

A couple from this morning. We haven't had much in the way of rain, but when we do we seem to get a good soaking, so the reservoirs are down, but not too bad.

While out filming along the Pennine way after the recent downpours, I noticed these hedgehog footprints that went on for some distance along the track. It looks like it was doing the trail north to south. No idea if its for fun, or for charity, but good luck to it 😉😄

A couple of shots of the culprits that have been defoliating and covered the local Bird Cherry trees in a white web. We have a few along the Tees in Teesdale and it's is caused by Bird-Cherry Ermine moth larvae. Pics are of the larvae and the adult moth. it doesn't harm the trees long term

Nice one, it's always good to do a walk and then come away having spotted another one to do in the future 👍

Thanks for the info. I understand they like nest boxes in particular. I found out recently that they are even known to evict Blue Tits from a nest box. I think they have made it well into Scotland now.

I found this Tree Bumblebee (Bombus hypnorum) nest while out filming yesterday. I didn’t realise that these bees are a recent natural arrival in the UK. First recorded in the south of England in 2001 they are slowly spreading northwards. #Teesdale #treebumblebee #bumblebee #nature #wildlife
