i really should watch muppet treasure island too! muppet adaptations just seem so cute and fun. and yes, definitely, i tend to read before bed, but hyperion was A) very scary B) too interesting to put down so i ended up being awake too late! XD

he is!! i now see why he's the blueprint of the modern pirate. AND i feel like he had a lot of qualities people really like these days in fictional characters, the playing two sides, the very hints of tenderness buried somewhere very, very deep. great character!

book post: i read treasure island recently and i wholeheartedly recommend it! perfect adventure book. then i started reading hyperion and became immediately insane and had nightmares.

"We’re already working to update the Patreon iOS app to avoid Apple’s fees As a first step, we are submitting an update to the Patreon iOS app in Apple’s App Store immediately to include an option for fans to use an alternative payment method to Apple’s in-app purchasing system. Once approved by Apple, this update would mean that new members in the U.S. who make purchases in the Patreon iOS app will be able to choose a checkout option that does not include Apple’s 30% fee. Note: This pending app update, once approved and released in Apple’s App Store, will provide alternative checkout options for U.S.-based fans signing up for new memberships. At this time, this only applies for creators on subscription billing as legacy first-of-the-month and per-creation billing models are still unable to accept new membership sign ups in iOS."

Huge news on Patreon! Because of the Apple v. Epic ruling, they are not only dropping the 30% Apple Store charge on the iOS app, they are also halting the move to subscription billing for all creators - which would have affected creators like me, who use a "per video" structure than monthly.

Noting Rowling’s vast financial success, Barker felt that Rowling’s newfound position of fame ought to exclude her from discussing trans rights. He added, “It really just seems redundant for a woman as successful, as validated in the world, as Ms Rowling, to be negative, to be disruptive if you will, to a very beaten up subculture. These are human beings. She has no right to opine, I think, upon the lives of human beings that she does not know.” “I feel very protective of people who are on the edge of our culture as gay people still are,” Barker continued. “And certainly transgender people are on the edge of our culture. And here you have one of the most successful people in the frigging world – Ms Rowling. Going after a very emotionally vulnerable portion of our culture. It just seems unnecessary and unfair.”
