As I mention frequently re #GameofThrones, folks like my student Savannah Shipman established that rape convictions were higher in 1300s England than U.S. today. Roman law forbade cat-calling women! If we represent the past as undiluted Misogynia, we implicitly excuse current law/norms as "Better."

A nitrile gloved right hand holds a fibula (brooch) in the shape of a crossbow, showing the side where the museum accession numbers of two different generations were inscribed. "GB346" is the older number and crisply readable while "927.15.132" the newer accession number, is chipped and not as distinct, especially the 7 and the 5. Fibula is black-brown, numbers are in white ink, background is grey.

When the old number GB346 stays on the object better than the new number 927.15.132 you're glad the database is searchable for both! It's not bad really but it happens often. Crossbow fibula from Winchester, UK, 300-400 CE in the @romtoronto.bsky.social collection.

There are two large mounds of dark brown rock that have indentations carved into the rock to facilitate climbing over the rock in a dip between the mounds. It's very steep and would still be a difficult climb in my opinion! At the base of the mounds is a large hole carved into the rock, perhaps the start of some sort of dwelling. There is another larger rock behind these mounds, and the sky is deep blue with puffy white clouds.
