The Ecology of Transit Resistance. Episode 163
YouTube video by Edenicity The Ecology of Transit Resistance. Episode 163

Public transit can green a city by freeing up space for other uses. But most of us resist transit expansion. Even some environmentalists. Why? There's actually an ecological reason. Here's how to flip it.

One of the biggest confusions in politics is between spending and investment. Everything Prof. Reich is talking about is an INVESTMENT that pays society back many times over. Proof? Nordic countries and Singapore. ๐Ÿซณ๐ŸŽค

YouTube video by More Perfect Union We got AZ Dems to commit to ban billionaires from buying primary elections. Your state could be next

Yay AZ!

It's now clear there are 2 kinds of Democrats:

SOCIAL Democrats (refuse big donors), and
CORPORATE Democrats (corrupt by definition)

EVERY Democrat should declare which one they are, and be ready to prove it! This works even better at the state level.

There are 2 kinds of Democrats:

SOCIAL Democratsโ€”unbeatable poll numbers
Corporate Democratsโ€”lowest poll numbers ever

This is what happens when inequality gets so insane that money loses its meaning. It can't even buy elections anymore.

Padilla's question came just after Noem publicly vowed to maintain a military occupation of L.A. and California until it was "liberated" from its "socialist" mayor and governor.

Why have Noem and co-conspirator Hegseth not been indicted for armed insurrection to overthrow elected officials?

Second, the price hits even harder today because of systematic wage theft since the 1970s. All that extra productivity? Straight into the pockets of CEOs and investors. Way to go, โ€œfreeโ€ markets.

Why is US housing so expensive?

4 obvious reasons: supersizing, wage theft, speculation by large private equity firms, and price-fixing algorithms.

Less obvious: Since 1949, industry pressure has kept governments from building public housing that has proven successful in other countries.

Great point! Here's hoping ๐Ÿซ systematically catalog all forms of voter suppression and deploy active countermeasures for each one. For example, programmatic purges of voter rolls can trigger automatic voter alerts, live follow-up and paper trails for legal/media challenges.

SAFETY AND HEALTH: Strongly regulate guns to make schools and public gatherings safe again. Vastly expand public transit (60โจ‰ safer than cars, far less polluting). QUALITY ENVIRONMENT: Make energy 100% renewable by 2050 (costs less just than buying more fossil fuels). End sprawl subsidies (fuels, roads, water, taxes). Upgrade all buildings for energy efficiency. Expand and protect the national parks. Invest in rail, not roads or highways. Restore damaged wildlife habitat

With renewable energy, the world may need 1,000โจ‰ more batteries. But todayโ€™s best batteries wonโ€™t last long. They also use scarce minerals from ecologically fragile areas, inviting political volatility. But what if a clunky, old-school technology could save the day?

Meanwhile, Singapore builds however much public housing it takes to get people housed, resulting in 90% home ownership (vs 65% in the US). All without undercutting the open market.

Itโ€™s appalling that the US has both a housing shortage and way too many supersized, exclusive residences full of empty rooms. OK, free markets, youโ€™ve shot your shot. Time for governments to step in and get everyday people housed.
