Very true. I'm a solo indie developer, so I get to pick (and pay for 😭) my own equipment. but I've worked on many projects outside gamedev where bad equipment had major negative effect on my motivation and performance.

A thing I've noticed recently, is how much better I work on my laptop, despite having a complete dual screen, premium keyboard etc. etc. setup. I love being able to work anywhere, any time, and I think it helps me feeling less burned out. #indiegame #gamedev

Very cool. It’s been almost a year since I wrote “Coming to Steam Deck” for the first time. So it’s quite surreal that it’s actually here 😄

So far I’m actually quite impressed with the screen. I expected the LCD to be poorer color quality. I haven’t seen the OLED screen though. I would have liked a higher resolution - that’s the weak point so far. In-game texts quickly get pixelated. But that doesn’t change with the OLED.

LCD. Considered the OLED mainly for the extra battery life, but overall I think this one suits my needs.

Hah, thanks. It’s solid oak. I know because I still have a few spares… and yes, I love it 😍

That makes sense. Kind of like the story of railway width being decided by the width of a roman two-horse chariot 😆

Making UI compatible with varying aspect ratios is just a lot of work, especially when allowing scaling too. I see many games, even big ones, just showing black bars top and bottom.

While I'm waiting for tester feedback, I'm working on getting Mindbreak to run on my new Steam Deck. First, just one question: WHO THE FUCK DECIDED TO MAKE ITS SCREEN 16:10??! #indiegame #gamedev

It is weird. Capsule art is expensive if you can't make it yourself, however. And since the vertical is not shown until someone actually own the game, I guess some devs decide to postpone those. But yea, it does give a sort of bad impression when someone decides to get your demo.

Nice. I’ll definitely find a few games to play on the coming holiday. I bet I’ll have to fight for playing time when the kids find out about it 😬

Honestly, my own game mostly. That’s what I bought it for. Also, I’ve been waiting for a good way to play LIMBO and INSIDE, both of which have been sitting in my library for years. I’ll probably start there 😊

While library capsules (the images shown when the game is in your library: vertical, header, hero and logo) are mandatory for full releases, they are optional for demos. Only the store page capsules are required. So probably because the devs didn’t make them yet.

Yea. More battery life was why I considered it for a bit. Thanks for the insight.

Damn. I though it was missing some blue and red colors 🤷‍♂️

I found one used for around half price of retail. This is the LCD version, so fairly reasonable, I’d say.

It is. I bought it for play testing, but that’s no reason not to have a good time with it too 😊 So far I’m quite impressed, even though I did only get the LCD version.

A small break by the side of the road. The first outside ride of the year. Man, I’ve missed this 😍🥵

Thinking about buying a Steam Deck. I might need to do some testing on one soon, and it could be fun.

Really exciting! Congrats on the approval. I've seen several game launches being postponed, even over just the past few weeks, because devs were too optimistic about Valve's approval process. Now you can focus on getting the game in the best possible state for launch. Good luck!

I officially started closed beta testing of the demo. Sent out keys to 4 testers - people I don't know. I instructed them to do a screen recording to pair with their written feedback. Now I'm just calmly waiting for their responses... #indiegame #gamedev
