Yeah, now the engines are just a generic "power unit" made by 2 or 3 companies.
I recall seeing Surtees race the air-cooled Honda V8 F1 car in the '60s. What a glorious noise that was!
With vintage racing, I still get to see things like a '30s Alfa inline eight GP car

Yes, perfection. Here's my photo of a similar Jag six with triple Webers.
I saw this engine in a C-type Jag at LeMans last summer. This is the C-type that won the 24 Hours overall in 1953.
I had one just like that. Bought it new. Same year & color. Used it to tow my MG racer on an open trailer all over the northeast plus one very memorable 1000 mile trip (fuel stops only) to collect my Austin in Ontario during a blizzard.
Towing was hard on it. Trans started slipping so I traded it in

Pre-war in-line, twin-cam six cylinder engine with super charger. Note "starting carburetor".
Classic car engines can be an Objets d'art for a mechanical engineer like me
Here some engines shot at the GP Monaco Historique 2012. Photos are not mine but taken by a person who is a Google Photo collaborator with me.

Google tells me there are a number of cars & coffee events near the Welsh/English border. And something called the Welsh Border Car Club runs auto-tests, which is where a 7 shines
More importantly (to me, at least) a club is a great social outlet My local car club guys are all kindred spirits to me
Just Googled this festival. Fun! I love stuff like this. Too cold here yet for a big outdoor show
I'm headed to an Atlantic Highlands Arts Council event this weekend. My sister is entered in a juried photo contest. Her brothers (5 of us) will be there to root for her
Keep the car snaps coming!
My favorite taillights are on a Mk 1 Cortina. These "peace sign" lights were also used on some TVRs and the 1st Lola GT.
I'm also a fan of the taillights on the BMW 2002 and Ferrari 308.
Also like the simple lights on mid '60s VWs.
Got any you like?

Give it time. Mine was an acquired taste. But worth the effort
Do you have any Cars & Coffee or similar car meets by you? They are always fun to attend in a 7
My Midget is a Lexus by comparison. And sometimes I'd prefer my Yamaha.
But on the right day & on the right road, driving a 7 is sublime π

Our vintage club (VRG) holds a 2.5 day licensing course for vintage racing (I'm an instructor). Not real expensive if you bring our own car. Otherwise, you can rent a Miata
The local SCCA likes our school and lets our license-holders race in SCCA regional events

Sick of snow. We had 12" of it 10 days ago. It's been super cold so the snow hung around. Today we had blizzard conditions & another 9" (been snowing for the last 16 hours). This is heavy wet "heart attack snow". I have 400 ft of sidewalk to clear if it ever stops.
In '24 we had 3" total all Winter
I recall seeing Dan Gurney drive this Trans-AM Cougar back in the day. Back then, it was sort of an underdog compared to the factory Mustangs and Camaros.
My old racing buddy Jim was the long-time president of the Delmarva Cougar Club (he has two of them). They get over 50 Cougars at some events.
Re: styling.
My van looks like the box that it came in! π
The Z8 is a beauty. But it's weight (3500 lbs) combined with the elevated price for used ones ($150k USD or more) kills my interest.
Love the MX5. I bought a new NB in 2000 and kept it for 17 years. Still my favorite car.
These just scream "bad ass". π

Agreed. I used to have a regular R5 that was lightened/gutted. I used it for autocross-only. I always thought how cool it would be to build an ersatz Turbo.
I'm a sucker or anything with box flares
When I ordered my GMC Savana cargo van, they tried to sell me the optional chrome bumpers. Ugh!
Every time I see one of these GM cargo vans with shiny bumpers, it makes me want to wretch.

An English friend of mine, who also has a Cayman, mentioned to me that he likes the "haunches" on our cars. He has a 987.2 and I have a 982 (718)
I hadn't thought about this but there are some cars with great rear fender lines.
(yes, that's Joe's C2)

It's stunning to think our "small" 1500cc Honda CRV weighs 3500 lbs. And the weights of some of these electric cars is even more flabbergasting.
