I'd suggest you can dive in with any one that has a blurb that takes your fancy. You'll still have a good time

I feel mine is the same. But when daughter asked me whether I'd be using it on a visit to Scotland, I declined.. 🐓

If you trust in yourself. . .and believe in your dreams. . .and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy
Some great life lessons in that one 😊

Phillips Machine - Wikipedia

I completely understand 😊
I also quite enjoy finding out (more likely being told...) of all the elements that have links to our roundworld. (eg from Making Money en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phillip.... One to remember for later when you get there 😉)

Unfortunately it really is that poor 🙁
Great to hear that you're enjoying the book (books?) though. Where have you got to? 😊

It's the reread-ability that scuppers that flow I reckon 🙂

Interesting! I am repeatedly amazed and impressed by the way these are translated. I guess it's a skill which can be learned like another but it's alien to my brain. I could never do it. Thank you for sharing 😁👍

Love that. Translation is so much more than just switching one word for another. Such a skill!
Have they flipped some of the pun names so that they retain their double meanings? Sgt Colon, Nobby Nobbs, Moist (slightly damp etc), Marquis of Aix en Pains for example 🙂

How is the translation? I've heard from others that both the French and Spanish versions make superb efforts to maintain the puns and jokes 🙂

Did they name him Beau Nidle?

Also, as suggested, Small Gods makes for a good starting place
