I think I've learned my lesson about ever mentioning "Twitter" and "BlueSky" in the same post.

It was this collosal collective envy thing. Just a spectacular flame-out.

The badges used to get more visibility in the algo even in OG Twitter. But that was good, because the badges were generally given to people who had opinions on issues that people were interested in hearing instead of dead-brain Johnny and his $8.

This may be the key problem.

Yeah I completely prefer BlueSky in a lot of ways. I just really miss the peak of Twitter, which was more than just a bare news feed.

Plus, the special sauce of peak Twitter really elevated running debates among actual experts. It wasn't just a news feed.

One of the troubles is that there’s so much slop and video. And video is not usually interesting and doesn’t lead to interesting discussions.

These are whole other things. But you’re right, it was so much more fun. It’s all just rage now.

I don’t know if you noticed, but the A Team were a team of mercenaries who worked entirely for free. I don’t think that was covering the bills yoots.

I wonder what it was? The selling of Verified Badges? Changes to the algo?

I gotta say, Twitter used to have this special sauce that made it the best way to consume news. That is absolutely gone. I think BlueSky’s lack of algorithm is going to prevent it from filling the gap. And it’s just a perfect example of enshittified technology.
