The piece as a whole resembles a playing card, the heart seen in the corners, adding to the idea that everything feels like I need to “play my cards right.” Also something my mother used to say all the time. Overall, a piece on self destruction and love.

Partially yes! The mask style is based off of maori whakairo, and they're made of greenstone. I wanted to give them the mossy / natural plant look to match!!
