We had to commission a special bat survey which cost c.£400 (but might have easily been £1K) as a condition of planning permission to demolish a conservatory. It was the most insane & pointless piece of bureaucracy. So stupid, in fact, that the ecologist first wrote about our loft in error...

Apparently, they were the lucky ones. Their architect said another family was delayed building their house for 9 months while they waited for their 'bat licence' to be granted.

Watching Grand Designs. I really think this country needs to make building easier. Family in this episode spent £6500 & were delayed in building their house as a bat might be in the roof of the old house. Turned out the was no bat! How can you stop building for a bat let alone an imaginary one.

One of the most frustrating things about magistrates courts is the way every interview room has been turned into an office. I'm at Uxbridge and can only find two rooms for all 4 courts. Needless to say they are all busy & there's nowhere private for me to speak with my client.

Chaos in the Crown Court today as two unrepresented defendants with the exact same name appeared in a hearing in a large multihanded case… one over a link from prison and one in the dock from bail. No one knows how the random same-named man was linked in to us from his prison but he was NOT happy.
