Do you ever feel like you are losing interest in your main focus - weather? In some ways, that is the case for me. It could be a combination of the boring pattern and social media divisions.

When the weather is as quiet as a mouse, the most you can do is keep writing reports, do research and try to do sales. That said, if you are in risk management or the like in the private or public sector, I can help you with a product that I have partnerships with on street-level storm corridors.

For the first time ever, I'm having to get into calculus for some of the work reports I am doing. Now you see why meteorologists you see doing any kind of weather work (including on TV) often have a scientific knowledge - they need to know difficult equations.

With the leaves starting to fall, that means more cold fronts + low pressure systems, and the opportunities for #severe weather.

It's always been a threat, but we're a lot more aware and also there's a lot more development out there too. Plus there may be more energy.

I am now officially a 3x published author in scientific material, as the most recent publication just got published in the October issue. That concludes the dissertation series.

On a positive note, my article on tornado sheltering and how it relates to broadcast meteorologists has been approved for publication. It should be published either later this fall or early in 2026.

Having to remember old math formulas, and even look at calculus rules, for a poster I am presenting basically takes me back to school.

That's why any meteorologist you see on air or at a desk is also a scientist.

The Richter scale for #earthquake intensity is logarithmic. A one-point increase (i.e., from 7.0 to 8.0) represents nearly 32 times more energy released (and about 10 times stronger wavelengths). So the jump from M8.0 to M8.8 was ENORMOUS. This is in rare territory. #tsunami

One challenging aspect of my work is that it involves sometimes hours of research just to verify a few new #tornado shelter locations. I have to look it up if there's a hint of it, then look around on Google Earth AND Google Street View, often block by block. Some images are 10 to 17 years old!

Preparing my stuff for the NWA (National Weather Association) conference in September. Also deciding if I want to go to AMS in January either in person or online. The sticking point for me is that AMS is often TOO big for me...

After a month of frustration with a broken computer and delays, I finally just re-submitted my article for scientific review - based on the broadcast meteorology realm and tornado shelter communication.
