The City of #Ottawa is so close to establishing a Youth Pass for 18 and under residents, free at the point of service transit every day after 5pm, weekends, holidays and summers. It would begin July 1st 2026. Tomorrow, it can become a reality in this city for our youth. #Ottnews

It came down to the building at 10 main and its function, the row back of sidewalk, and space constrains to fit everything in. There is a lot more nuance to this.

We fought hard for this section to be completely separated. The intersection and building in and out were very difficult for staff to design

I have been pushing OC Transpo to adopt a youth pass, for free transit for 18 and under and compliment the existing U-Pass in Ottawa. A big step in that direction today is before transit commission with free service after 5pm, on weekends and holidays for 18-under. Would love to see summers added.

It would be wonderful to create young life long transit users and complement the existing u-Pass at post secondary schools in Ottawa which I campaigned to bring in.

Iowa City Made Its Buses Free. Traffic Cleared, and So Did the Air.
"Ridership has surpassed pre-pandemic levels by 18%. Bus drivers say theyβre navigating less congested streets. People drove 1.8 million fewer miles and emissions dropped by 24,000 metric tons a year - the equivalent of taking 5,200 vehicles off the roads."

This underscores the importance of collaboration in decision-making at city hall. The existing safe, structurally sound, and higher capacity facilities could have been used for much longer until a better plan, and one that was publicly supported, could be implemented.

One of the strategic failures of #OttCity Road Safety Action Plan is the lack of communications about where speed camera revenues are spent.
I got the list via #ATIP. Here are some projects that were only made possible because of these revenues. Full data at tinyurl.com/4brrmh9j

Iβm happy to say that we worked with the city and OC transpo to install two new bus stops on Main St at Centennial. They are temporary now and permanent next spring. This cuts walking distance significantly and better connects up with the General Hospital. #Ottawa #Ottcity

As women's hockey climbs to new heights, the City of Ottawa says think smaller | Opinion
PWHL executives Jayna Hefford and Amy Scheer write that it's not too late to change the story on Lansdowne 2.0.
Lansdowne 2.0 doesnβt give Ottawa what it needs. The plan is built around the limits of a public-private deal that leaves the city with hundreds of millions in new debt for a project that wonβt serve residents well.

7) The OAG also identifies a risk the Redblacks could leave after 2042 and highlights that the city is taking revenue projections into account with the Ottawa Charge staying at Lansdowne, something the city has fumbled and is now unclear to the detriment of fans of the team.

6) Significant risk long term nature of the partnership to 2075, tens of millions of potential downside risk for the city related to Redblacks. Risk of $84 million decrease in waterfall distributions to the city on revenue projections and higher expenses.

5) The city has recommended funds ($5 million) that should have gone to affordable housing to instead be allocated to building parking for the residential towers.

4) There is a financial risk with the developer contract to build the skyscrapers. If the City fails to complete the transaction for any reason before the final closing deadline (July 31, 2031), the city would pay $13 million to the developer- Mirabella.
03.11.2025 15:14 β π 8 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0
3) The city has agreed to pay $16 million of the $32 million for "business interruption costs". This public subsidy won't go to small businesses on site but rather will be paid by the city ie: for lost revenue from the stands being torn down. This cost could escalate.
03.11.2025 15:14 β π 8 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0
2) The OAG has flagged a major risk on construction cost, that the contingency amount is not enough and could increase the cost of the project and residents taking on more than the $331 million they are already withdrawing. Tariffs, escalation costs and development complications.
