Thank you to everyone who attended my session at API World last week on Building Agenting Workflows with MCP. After my session, I had quite a few attendees ask me for the slides.
Over the weekend I updated my website (www.sterlingchin.com#talks) with many of my recent talks!
AI passes the Turing test, but it's not conscious.
I've been mulling this over for a few months, but then
@mustafasuleymanai.bsky.social's essay where he coined the phrase "Seemingly Conscious AI" took it over the top
The reality is that we're not ready for SCAI

Hey, that's me! Thanks for coming up and chatting!

Yes, MCP is everywhere now!
By the way, you can find the shirt here: www.etsy.com/listing/4313...
I have watched this clip a hundred times and I still giggle EVERY. SINGLE. TIME
@willjohnson.bsky.social and @focusotter.bsky.social brought a special kind of energy to Web Dev Challenge I don't think we will (should?) see on the show again ๐

This gives credence to a Silicon Valley OG who said that AI is in same era as the internet was in 96'/97'. We are only at the beginning.
24.04.2025 15:45 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0What I'm saying is that, while there is a lot of FOMO going around certain tech circles, the rest of the tech industry is yet to catch up. Once the tech industry catches up, the rest of the world will follow.
24.04.2025 15:45 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This is when I started to realize that even in the small tech bubble we live in, being at the forefront of MCP and AI puts me in an even smaller bubble inside the bubble.
24.04.2025 15:45 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0All of my friends, and I mean ALL of them looked at me blankly. None of them were using AI at all. Some had tried to use it at work, but didn't see the benefit, so they dropped it. Others were told by their companies that they were not allowed to use AI at all, so everything was blocked.
24.04.2025 15:45 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0For context, these developers all have over 20+ years of experience in various industries and tech stacks.
I excitedly started talking about MCP servers and how it was going to revolutionize AI, kill UI (in a good way), and make agents accessible to everyone.
I feel like I live in a bubble in a bubble.
I spent some time over the weekend with some long time friends who are also developers. We started talking shop, as one does when you're in a group of developers.

There is so much to do, and so little time to do it all.
Tech leadership is about surrounding yourself with the right people. People who don't always agree with you. People who will challenge your assumptions. People who will provide feedback.
But it has to be built around trust. Trusting those around you.
Hello my friend!
