Hello! I'm Scruffy (he/they), a composer, visual artist, and video educator. {? I β‘}
The game crashed at this point, so I think it's safe to say this is as far as I'm ever getting in #9kings (the normal maximum is Year 99π)
10.08.2025 03:36 β π 20 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My friend @oaf.bsky.social and I worked together on a game for the 2025 GMTK Game Jam! You play as a little salmon eating prey to grow and then avoiding obstacles to swim upstream in a loop of life cycles! It was super fun to make and we hope you enjoy it π

Mainly used CSP's default gouache brush for this to give every surface some nice painterly grit. And nearly every layer got a pipeline of:
1. Multiply layer for primary shadows
2. Multiply layer for (heavy) ambient occlusion
3. Add layer for specular highlights and red rim lighting
I forgot to enable Clip Studio Paint's timelapse feature when I painted Warhammer Bowser for the latest arrangement's thumbnail, so instead, I put together a little video of each layer being added in roughly the order I painted them!
11.07.2025 00:23 β π 66 π 17 π¬ 5 π 0And last but not least is the most unexpected pairing: Bowser's Castle theme from Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, arranged in Jesper Kyd's style from Warhammer 40,000: Darktide!

Next is Cynthia's theme from PokΓ©mon Diamond/Pearl, arranged as though it's a Monster Hunter battle!

It's a triple attack of new music arrangements! The theme is boss music in the style of a different game... but I ended up arranging *all* the options in the Patreon poll! First up is the Emperor Bulblax battle from Pikmin, in the style of a boss from Breath of the Wild!

Some Deltarune doodles... turns out Schoolhouse Rock's style works very nicely on them

07.05.2025 15:19 β π 121 π 69 π¬ 11 π 2I don't often plug my Patreon, but I'm especially excited for my next arrangement and patrons currently get to vote on it! The theme is "cross-bosses:" iconic themes from climactic fights in their respective games, but done in the style of a different game soundtrack!

A new arrrangement! Classic track from the Game Boy edition of PokΓ©mon Trading Card Game, with a little more bass clarinet!

For the beginning of April, I have a new, special episode of my Pikmin 4 playthrough to show you! I take on another challenge that Captain Olimar offers, one that's very different from the rest of the game!

Hello everyone! And happy trans day of visibility! May you be seen and appreciated even after today for who you are and what you create. π
31.03.2025 23:41 β π 80 π 22 π¬ 4 π 0The team that created Frogsong is working on a new adventure called Stomp and the Sword of Miracles, about a plucky hero whose island is caught in a feud between two gods! And I'm going to be writing the game's soundtrack, so I wanted to share a taste of the music so far!

Oh, one last thing! This link to the updated version of the document denied me access, you'll want to check Share settings in Google Docs and set viewer permission to "Anyone with link."
11.01.2025 03:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Your guess unfortunately seems to be the case, as the comment isn't even held for review, it's just gone with no notice. If you can provide a link to that list of corrections, I'll make a new pinned comment and credit you! Hopefully YouTube wouldn't take down a comment from me on my own video lol
09.01.2025 20:10 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Happy new year everyone! My friend Stijn produced this rad music video as a nice uplifting kickoff to the new year, and I'd like to spread it around! π
02.01.2025 23:38 β π 21 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0My last upload of the year: my patrons voted for me to arrange the Advanced Step theme from Wii Fit, and it was a blast, both to perform and to animate!! And special thanks to @wafflesmogumogu.bsky.social for performing Samplemodeling's The Trumpet in the outro!

This is fantastic stuff!!
20.12.2024 19:56 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A new arrangement, and my last upload of 2024, will be coming tomorrow! It was a blast to work on and I'm looking very forward to sharing it π
20.12.2024 19:45 β π 26 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Makes the whole process worth it to hear you and others having as much fun noticing those little details as I have building them π
07.12.2024 00:49 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0To elaborate my point (spoilers!):
They're both ludicrously fashionable three-eyed goat people from ancient but technologically advanced civilizations (whose names are two letters apart: Zonai, Nomai) who befriend and guide the protagonist despite being not quite alive nor dead.
A painting by Scruffy of Rauru, a Zonai character from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, walking with Solanum, a Nomai character from Outer Wilds. Rauru appears to be deep in thought with his left arm on Solanum's shoulder, while Solanum holds a staff and a shard of rock with spiraling Nomai text written on it. They walk on a sky island from Tears of the Kingdom, and several other islands and clouds are visible in the background. One background island has Solanum's Nomai spaceship perched atop it, and behind the cloud cover, the Quantum Moon from Outer Wilds can be seen in the blue sky.
I have one more Outer Wilds fan art to share, the toughest thing I've ever painted... (spoilers for a late-game character!)
The painting of Solanum I used in the new video comes from my painting of her with Rauru from Tears of the Kingdom, two characters with a lot coincidentally in common!
A new What I Love video! Join me in exploring Outer Wilds's unique sci-fi soundtrack that encodes the game's alien cultures into history!
Spoiler warning: no endgame content discussed, but I still highly recommend you play or watch through Outer Wilds before watching this!

A painting by Scruffy of Super Mario in a spacesuit wearing his water pump, F.L.U.D.D., on his back. He is floating on a lily pad down a river inside the ring world of The Stranger from Outer Wilds. Some F.L.U.D.D. nozzle boxes are visible in the distance, and eight Red Coins are hidden throughout the image.
// Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye minor area spoilers
More Outer Wilds fan art I've made, this one was particularly fun to paint π
"Mario, I believe we've strayed well outside Isle Delfino..."
Just to keep you in the loop, the new What I Love video is complete and will launch tomorrow!
05.12.2024 19:07 β π 27 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0A painting by Scruffy of a scene from the game Outer Wilds: a Hearthian named Tektite beholds a strange, large, glowing seed that has landed and quickly sprouted roots on the planet Timber Hearth.
An older piece of Outer Wilds fan art... Tektite finds something peculiar has taken root on Timber Hearth.
04.12.2024 19:20 β π 41 π 6 π¬ 1 π 0You guessed it: my next What I Love video is going to be about Outer Wilds, a game I treasure and have been planning to talk about for a while. All plans proceeding accordingly, the video will be ready this week!
Leading up to that, this week I'll be sharing some past Outer Wilds fan art I've made!
I tried this out: quite a fun way to think about my favorite pieces of Super Mario music! π I've somewhat tired myself out on the Mario Kart 8 soundtrack, but I still think it hit the strongest of any Mario soundtrack for me. They got such a tight band, sounds like it was a blast to perform in it.
