We are pleased to announce that the Makris Symposium in Economic Theory will take place in Bristol on Monday-Tuesday, 23-24 March 2026. MSET2026 is an in-person event organised by the same team as VSET.

Call for Papers: 8th POLECONUK Annual Conference, University of Birmingham, June 8-9, 2026.
The conference will include a special session for graduate students to present their research. Both theoretical and empirical contributions are welcome. No registration fee. Submission Deadline: Feb 28.

Abstract 4/4: As an example, we discuss the benefit of conserving tropical forests 🥬🌳 by offering policy-linked loans rather than sticking with traditional compensation-for-conservation policies.

Abstract 3/4: What is the optimal design, how do they influence opponents' policies, and how can the incumbent use commitment bonds to influence future elections? How can lenders exploit the situation by offering policy-linked loans?

Abstract 2/4: By issuing a commitment bond, the rate of return can be tied to future policies, and thus the incumbent can influence future decisions. What are the boundaries for what the incumbent can achieve by issuing commitment bonds?

Abstract 1/4: Policymakers often face time inconsistency problems. The incumbent would like to promise sustainable policies, for example, but it may later be tempting to defect on the promises.
