If you wanna get more use from the GBA then there is an old translation patch for Mother 1 on the GBA. The Mother 2 side only got as far as menus though. I think someone was working on Mother 2 separately not too long ago but I'm not sure how far it got. mother12.earthboundcentral.com

Yeah, also helps that the CPU itself is basically just a 6502 clone with a piece missing, so most people will just say things like "6502 code" when talking about NES coding.

Meanwhile the DMG/CGB also uses a chip combing the CPU and Sound hardware, but I feel like I don't see too many people label music from it "LR35902" or anything.

The naming schemes gets pretty silly with custom bespoke hardware like that. Like NES music being labeled "2A03" is kinda funny, because that *is* the name of the chip the sound hardware is on, but it's also the chip the main CPU is on.
