And I don't think it's because Miyamoto is stepping down because he himself approved or supervised some of these things (Mario Movie and Brothership respectively), I think he does realize he's not gonna be here forever and wants to shift his baby to be less concrete for others to work off of.

I don't think we're gonna have to worry about Mario being tame or standard again, they're letting him be portrayed slightly different in the movies, the new 2d Mario is sold on how "weird" it is, multiple story heavy Mario RPGs coexist on the Switch, and Galaxy 2 has its coveted story now.

I really do feel like the Galaxy 2 Storybook marks a paradigm shift for Mario's future. Feels like for years its absence in the original release was the de facto example of "Mario is boring and bland now and Shigeru Miyamoto is to blame for it all" and in the year 2025 he just let it happen.
