To my grandads' generation, it really meant something because they had been through WW1

Same thing for my Dad's generation and WW2.

Now this mawkish modern "war Christmas" has become performative and tacky as hell. Hijacked by politicians who have no interest in its purpose it's lost meaning too

Under-fire Reform MP is not
'genuinely' racist, says Farage

Extract:

Nigel Farage said he is "very unhappy" with a Reform MP for claiming there were too many black and Asian people in adverts, but said he did not believe that she was "genuinely racist".
The Reform UK leader said that Sarah Pochin's remarks were "ugly" and
"taken on their own could be read to be very, very unpleasant indeed".
", but he
would not be taking further action against her.
He said: "I don't like the way in which she did it. I am very unhappy with her indeed, [and] if I felt the intention was deliberately and genuinely racist.! would have taken a different course.
He said that her comments should be taken in the context of "DEl madness".
He added: *I understand the basic point, but the way she put it, the way she worded it, was wrong and was ugly, and if I thought that the intention behind it was racist, I would have taken a lot more action than I have to date." Pochin was accused of "shocking racism" by the prime minister for the re marks made on Saturday in responseto a viewer on a Talk TV phone-in. The caller had complained that the demographics of advertising "don't represent what this country looks like".
Pochin said the viewer was "absolute-ly right", adding: "It drives me mad when I see adverts full of black people, full of Asian people".
". She said: "It
doesn't reflect our society and I feel that your average white person, average white family, is not represented any more. How many times do you look at a TV advert and you think that there is not a single white person on it?"

Sir Keir Starmer said that Pochin's views were the kind that will tear our country apart*. He told the BBC that the incident *tells you everything about Reform."

He thinks we’re stupid. He relies on it. He’s relieved the media nods along. He needs the racist vote. But has to seem ‘respectable’ to persuade others. He’s angry with Pochin because she exposed what Reform really is. A party that doesn’t like seeing black or Asian people. A racist party.

that's how the Whigs described the changes that brought in the workhouses of Dickens' era & removed all other sources of welfare support

getting everything in order by punishing those who dare deviate from their ideals

Farage is asked about another two of his MEPs, who made the same pro-Russia statements that Nathan Gill has now pled guilty to being bribed to make.

"Opinions are opinions."

Farage's defence seems to be that they arrived at those views independently and it has nowt to do with him.

Hmm. 🤔 ~AA

Everything about his body language whenever a question is asked about the Russian bribes speaks of panic. Farage is vulnerable on this.

Wes Streeting on the lessons of the Caerphilly defeat - Labour aren't telling a compelling story about who they are, who they're for & what they are driving to do.

On the contrary, I'd argue voters have a very good idea who you are, who you're for and what you're doing.

"When Corbyn was leader Labour won Caerphilly with 22,491 votes (54.5% vote share).
Starmer has just lost the seat, which had been held by Labour for over a hundred years, with 3,713 votes (11% vote share).
This result suggests no Labour seat is safe while Starmer is leader."

People still talk about the Labour Party as being on the Left.

But the Conservatives were on the Right, for 14 years they destroyed the UK.

What has been undone that they did? What has been changed? Very little, it's mostly cosmetic, tiny taxes on the rich and breakfast clubs.

Also here in Australia. People willingly volunteered to go and murder Palestinian civilians. As part of a genocide. Any IDF personnel with Australian citizenship who did this must be prosecuted. Australian citizenship must be cancelled for dual citizens of Israel who did this.

Reform must constantly appeal to their racist base, but it disgusts everyone else.

We must call it out constantly, and we must not allow racists to pretend they are anything else.

Sir Keir Starmer has been specifically named in a UN report for complicity in Israel's genocide.

The report states that the UK government played "a key role in military collaboration with Israel... a collective crime... with detailed knowledge and cooperation in the destruction of Gaza." 🧵

Reeves considers adding 1p to basic rate or raising higher or additional tax rates.

There must be no tax rise for the bottom 50%.

Must tax dividends & capital gains at same rate as wages, restrict tax relief on pension contributions to basic rate only.

HMRC hasn't collected over £500bn since 2010

Brexit and then his batshit budget with Truss.
He should be in political oblivion for the mess he made and the price we all have to pay for his party’s failures.
