How the actual fuck does the British government listen to this shit from Hegseth and think β€œsounds great, that’s the team we want to be on!”?! Never again can they dare to pretend to be a progressive govt that gives a toss about law and human rights.

I know we should be used to the lies by now, but JFC Pete Hegseth is taking it to another level right now. Breathtaking.

I do sometimes ponder when Isrl might take on its enemy Spain once it has wiped out its nearest neighbours

The Middle East isn't some distant "over there" for Europe. It's part of our shared Mediterranean world.

The amazing thing about the approach the Tories, Labour, Reform are taking is that this just allows them to continue to be ever more deluded. Until elections come and Muslims+the majority of Britons who are anti-war say β€œcool, GFY the lot of you” and vote Green or Lib Dem. Bring it on.

Kemi Badenoch has accused Keir Starmer of not supporting the initial strikes in Iran for fear of upsetting Muslim voters β€œwhose political loyalties are swayed by conflicts in the Middle East, not the British national interest.”

That’s quite the claim, and pretty inflammatory.

One of my favourite sides of politics/media.

'there is a demon that lives underneath Downing Street and possesses every Home Secretary' remains a pretty strong theory tbh

Honestly the collective national level of disdain for Brits living in Dubai on all my social media platforms today really is bringing the UK together as one in a way that's hard to achieve in the modern era.

Has there ever been a PM so far from popular opinion and so indifferent to it? Seems to only care about life after politics and staying in with the Trump crowd πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I know that I sound like a broken record but I think once this society was ok with accepting mass covid deaths just to be able to eat at Applebees then all bets were off.

This is pretty grotesque from Badenoch. But also deeply politically weird: the Iran strikes are already unpopular and will become even more so. Why lock herself into a stance voters will hate?

As a bonus: the initial strikes are clearly illegal. Joining in defence to counterstrikes isn't.

I’m sorry but when the US was recommending people leave the region a week or so before the attacks, why on earth didn’t the UK and why should the taxpayer have to pay for even more government incompetence?

I think there is going to be a very substantial backbench rebellion against the immigration bill. Not at all convinced it will survive without concessions.

At some point you wonder not just if insiders using information to place bets, but maybe also reshaping their advice to make those bets profitable.

Except… many many of us won’t ever go back to Labour no matter what they do. They have to remove this leadership but even then will they change their ways in the Middle East, or in support of Trump? I don’t see it.

Discussing PR in the UK with a British friend he said - and I paraphrase - β€œBritish political parties are too stupid to handle PR”.

And here’s some evidence in that direction.

Net migration in 2025 was about 160,000.

That headline 2025 net migration figure will come out in May: it will clearly be significantly below the 205k for the year to June 2025 (est range: 130-180k) as 2025 visa data is now published.

But the 2026 figure is likely to show negative net migration.

The gaslighting propaganda from this Labour government is sending me over the edge. Oh thanks so much for defending the UK from the indiscriminate attacks on us in a region where we started the fight and have no reason to be there in the first place.

Imagine if Iran bombed Washington and killed students in schools, what would you call it? Terrorists

The U.S. and Israel bombed Tehran and killed students in schools. Why do you call it a "pre-emptive strike"?

Bombing a school is a war crime under international humanitarian law

The UK has moved 12 Jet Fighters to the Middle East.

The UK should not get involved in this war with Iran.

To legally go to war the UK MUST vote in Parliament.
