☠️ New GMOs: The result of last night comes down to a massive handout of our foodchain to pesticide firms like Bayer and BASF.

This is a vast #deregulation:
🚨scrapping safety standards,
🚨scrapping consumer freedom to choose
🚨creating more dependence for farmers through patents

The EP Plenary and the EU Member States can still reject this outcome that is very bad for farmers, consumers and the environment.

And there's more:

🔴 For NGT1 plants there is no risk assessment, even though everyone agrees there is no scientific basis to claim that NGT1-plants are safe for food

🔴 No labelling, so consumers can no longer see what they eat

🔴 Patents: a very weak compromise on a voluntary code of conduct, further weakened by Commissioner Varhelyi himself. Farmers and breeding companies will pay the price.

🔴 No traceability, no monitoring, no mandatory buffer zones or other co-existence measures (only optional for member states)

🔴 No adequate protection measures for the organic sector and other GMO-free chains

The only positive aspect are the sustainability criteria: NGT1 plants cannot be herbicide-resistant and cannot produce insecticides themselves.
