A ratificação ou não pelo parlamento ficará adiada até o Tribunal ter emitido a sua opinião, processo que dura entre 18 a 24 meses.

Depois da votação do Conselho da UE decorrer num processo pouco transparente e confuso, o PE votou pelo envio do acordo tóxico UE-MERCOSUL para avaliação no Tribunal de Justiça da UE. Os eurodeputados pretendem saber se o acordo está em conformidade com os Tratados Europeus.

Esta votação é o resultado de mobilizações de agricultores, cidadãos e OSC, realizadas ao longo de anos. Agradecemos às pessoas que escreveram aos eurodeputados pedindo-lhes que remetessem este acordo para o TJUE. A TROCA saúda esta decisão. Esta votação, que não é uma surpresa, ilustra o que temos vindo a dizer há meses: não há uma maioria na UE a favor do acordo mais prejudicial alguma vez negociado pela União Europeia. Qualquer aplicação provisória do acordo seria um escândalo democrático inaceitável, que desrespeitaria o parlamentarismo e as instituições europeias. Apelamos às instituições europeias para que revejam a sua posição: reforcem os laços políticos, geopolíticos e de cooperação com os países da América do Sul, e em particular com o Brasil, não façam exportação automóveis a combustão, importando carcaças de carne refrigerada.

Na passada 4ª feira, 21/01, o PE pronunciou-se a FAVOR da resolução que rejeita o acordo de livre comércio UE-Mercosul e o encaminha para o Tribunal de Justiça da União Europeia: 334 deputados votaram a FAVOR da resolução, 324 CONTRA. Assim, o processo de ratificação europeu está suspenso.

Dia 9/01 - O acordo UE-Mercosul não obteve ampla aprovação no Conselho da UE.
Dia 21/01 - O PE aprovou o encaminhamento do acordo para o Tribunal de Justiça da União Europeia e estes eurodeputados portugueses votaram CONTRA a verificação da compatibilidade do acordo com a legislação europeia.
