I had a call with my rep today to discuss this so she can give my thoughts to higher ups. I’d recommend others get in touch with their reps as well! (Also remember they have no control over the situation so be kind)

To follow up with this, I took a couple of minutes to email my season ticket rep to simply express my support for this and to ask that it be directed to the people who make those decisions to make something happen. STMs should consider doing something similar with their reps.

This is the last thing I’m going to say about this:

You had a Black centric theme night for a couple of years that was well programmed and received. Given the climate we live, to actively decide not to do it or replicate it elsewhere, communicates a specific message - intended or unintended.

do I feel qualified to pick up my phone and collaborate with people who are qualified? yep!

the club literally is in the midst of such a beautiful collaboration with Rose Room but they can’t work this out? it’s just weird.

I just keep coming back to why didn’t a club with an outstanding relationship with a supporters group by and for non-white supporters see the schedule and think “oh, we should ask for external input on this”?

It would be nice for the Spirit to have a Black Excellence night during the season to celebrate the culture upon which this District was molded. It doesn’t have to be June 19th or February for Black excellence to be centered by any team.

With other teams finding a way to celebrate the Black community, nothing is not a choice, @washingtonspirit.com.
