And they think we are the same as them, except we picked the blue team instead of the red one. They literally don't get it that we enjoy things. They don't get that we like looking at / listening to art created by other people because it enriches our lives in non-monetary ways.

I don't want to go back there. I only looked at the listing to kind of drill it into my head that I no longer live there because part of my brain is sort of expecting to return any day now.
I can't believe I actually moved. Really thought I'd never be able to own my own place ever.

Alright, my old place is up for rent again. They raised it by $200 per month, which I thought was outrageous *but* according to the listing they replaced the refrigerator with a modern one, added a dishwasher to the kitchen, and added a washer and dryer to the bathroom. So that's reasonable.

The person I gave this to put it up in their office, but that location is now closed for a total remodel. I'm guessing he took it home with him, but maybe it's floating around the company at a different office right now.

Would be interesting to go back to Laurelhurst Park and draw this again right now on blue paper with black charcoal and white and gray oil pastels.

I guess I've finally hit the time of the year where outdoor watercolor painting isn't a good idea and I have to switch to indoor stuff or starting from reference photos.

The difference with the Ozempic-class of weight loss drugs is they actually are evidence-based and work, unlike Trimspa and that other junk from back in the day. But wow, those ads look the same! And they are definitely targeting me since I'm assigned the identity of woman.

I have seen teenagers wearing Jncos, with the logo on them. No complaints about that though.

I'm getting Ozempic-copy ads all the time, posts featuring photos of alarmingly skinny celebrities, and I'm seeing an uptick in the use of the r-word recently.
Feels like the 90s are coming back, but only the bad stuff.

I love Art Deco architecture. I am fascinated by the history of the city of New York. Every time I go to the Met, I get angry that I can never see the Bonwit Teller Building masterpieces because he destroyed them. Not the worst thing he's done, but I don't feel bad for him getting that ugly trophy.

Yeah, that's my deal right now. I'm supposed to get Peacock included with my Xfinity account, but I haven't set that up yet, but I will look into it this weekend.

For real, I struggle with decision fatigue related to this. Too many choices I'm afraid I will make a bad one and then I zone out and don't buy anything.

there's a certain personality that's very debilitating in modern life. 100 years ago, if you wanted to buy something, you'd go to five local shops and decide. now with the internet, you need to spend 1,000 hours so you can own the best version in the world like you're some venetian patrician

James P Hall served multiple terms. My 2nd-great-grandfather only served one time. But I think that's because died of Bright's Disease when he was 44.

His BIL/my 2nd-great-mother's brother James P. Hall also filled that seat at other times. The Shannons (Irish Catholics) and Halls (English Catholics) were well educated, so tolerable for the Protestant establishment, but Catholic so the working class would vote for them.

My 2nd-great-grandfather only served one term because he didn't like the job and didn't like commuting to Trenton. He wanted to run his contracting business and make money from the railroad, which was booming in JC since it was just consolidated.

The reason why is in part due to NJ prisons being mostly filled with Irish and Irish-American men, and were heavily targeted by the Evangelicals of the time to get into the prisons and convert those papist criminal men "voluntarily." So a Catholic rep from JC needed to be on the prisons board.

The political scene of 1870s/1880s Jersey City was ... complicated. Basically a boom of Catholic immigrants and their kids took over. 1870s the Know Nothing Party took power as part the backlash and crashed and burned. Basically an upper-middle class Catholic guy had to rep JC.

Someone quote posted that saying it's great to have young people run.
In 1882 my 2nd-great-grandfather John M. Shannon was elected to rep Jersey City in the NJ Assembly when he was 30 years old, younger than Katie Brennan is now. 30-something politicians used to be normal and common!

Honestly, it's besides the point but I'm kind of impressed they typed something so long on an iPad. I hate typing on tablets.

On the one hand, I was sad that RiteAid closed, as it was one of the few pharmacies nearby and I went there. On the other hand, the new apartment building going in there is good! It's also right on bus lines. It's a good place to put some dense housing.

Mom: "What are you doing! You get rid of cars when they hit 100k miles. You have to, they start falling apart!"
Me: "No. This is a Subaru made in 2005. They go to 200k."

I replaced my clutch at ~105k miles and my mom thought that was the dumbest financial move I've made. It was actually the opposite! That was back during the pandemic when used vehicles were way, way overpriced and new vehicle had $5k dealership markups. I saved a lot of money in the long run.

Yeah, I have a 20 year old Subaru and I was just thinking that back when I got vehicle I didn't see many vehicles on the road from the mid 80s. I've had the car for half of my life, that's crazy!
