The Moneyhons, another set of Irish American brothers just identified for the Project at Andersonville. Born in America, their father had emigrated from Dublin in 1817. The brothers were captured at Chickamauga. #AndersonvilleIrish

My image of the grave of 38-year-old Dublin shoemaker William Carroll (Curran) at Andersonville, Georgia, where he died in 1864. William is an example of how well travelled Irish people could be during the period- he and his wife had a child born in Allahabad (Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh, India.

Tough day at the office for Jaro today going down 6-2 at home to Oulu. Lots of good play and a much closer game than the scoreline suggests, but too easy to score against this afternoon. On to next week!

Absolutely it is an interesting one to think about! The influence the American West was having on things like this in early 20th century Ireland is fascinating!

It is publication today for Late Heaney I am told, although I imagine it’ll be a while before I see it between ice storms and the broad Atlantic. I thought I’d share a few thoughts about it, as it’s a different kind of book for me in form and style.

Thanks Greg I'm delighted to hear that. There are a lot of references to farms in them, I've occasionally come across some very detailed descriptions of landholding and what is on the farms as well. Useful on so many levels.

2025 - The CIVIL WAR BOOKS and AUTHORS Book of the Year and Top Ten Year in Review Non-fiction Civil War book reviews, commentary, publishing news, author interviews, and profiles

Thanks so much to the fantastic Civil War Books & Authors for naming "Green & Blue" as runner-up in their 2025 Civil War Top Ten list of books. Amazing to make a list like that and be in such great company (including, appropriately, a battlefield archaeology title)😊 cwba.blogspot.com/2026/01/2025...

Looking forward to kikcing off our three-part lecture series on the 1916 Rising this evening with Tuatha! Tonight we are looking at the background to the revolutionary movement, going back as far as 1798 -and yes, the American Civil War even gets a (brief!) mention :-)
