Très gros plan sur l'œil, le front et le haut du bec d'une spatule rosée, bien bel oiseau dont on ne voit pas ici le plumage éclatant ni le vol gracieux, mais au contraire la texture complexe, presque reptilienne, des replis de peau jaune, gris, noir et vert clair et du bec gris. L'œil forme un anneau cuivré dont le centre est d'un noir d'encre.

It is a small, compact bird, roughly 41–49 cm in length. Here is a description of its features: "Sails" on the Back: The most distinctive feature is a pair of large, stiff, bright orange-to-copper feathers that stick up from its back like sails on a boat. Facial Pattern: The head is highly decorated with a crest of green, blue, and copper. It has white, crescent-shaped "spectacles" around the eye, and long, orange-orange whiskers or plumes that hang down the cheeks. Vibrant Colour Palette: The chest is a deep purple, separated from a buff-coloured belly by two bold white stripes. The flanks (sides) are a pale orange, often described as having a "streaked" or "streaked-orange" appearance. Beak: The beak is a sharp, bright, candy-apple red with a small, pale tip. Texture/Feel: When seen up close, the feathers appear glossy and highly detailed, particularly the iridescent green on the head and the metallic texture of the wings.
