And when I started university in the early 80s, the percentage of university revenues that came directly from government was way higher than today, and tuitions were low. Tuitions were reasonable. You could pay off the debt of a degree in a reasonable time frame.

As a Canadian watching this slide into fascism, it's interesting to me that I'm old enough (60ish) that I can remember when Canada's government was pretty significantly more socialist than the US, or at least had a significantly better social safety net.
