Yeah definitely - the chases were absolutely ridiculously underbaked to the point I was sure that something was broken - that that COULDNT be it (it was).

The handling was so weird, you did basically just need to set everything to full drift tuning because Grip was a Lie... strange choices.

Matters are of course complicated these days by me making a concerted effort to know more Europeans and establish a little bit of arms length from Americans - but it still stands that I'm not some puzzle to unlock. I am just a guy, who has less free time than he would like, plucking his trade

Yeah, pretty much. I think I would worry that if I gave someone guidance, or that if they needed it - that I would be getting an inauthentic representation of someone built to pander to me - which is not what I want at all.

It's so funny because I have played NFSU2, MW, and Carbon to death, but the direction the series took afterwards I fell away from for some reason - but I can't deny the influence it had! Those police chases were too damn fun.

9. I am a simulator nerd. After a bad day I like to boot one of these up and feel like I have a modicum of control over things. This one very much epitomises that. There are very many others - but this one stood out as an early example of what kind of gradual fixing of things I like.

8 (Swap 7 out oopsie!) I love racing games, & driving games, but that all started with Need for Speed. I was an Underground 2 kid, but Most Wanted made me pay attention . San Andreas made me pay attention to the experience, & Forza 3 made me appreciate the racing, but that all stemmed from here.

6. Even today I enjoy playing this stupid game. It's my multiplayer go-to, even if I'm no world beater at it. It's the source of my name (yes, really) - and I've done more silly shit in this than a lot of games put together. When you don't take the sweat games seriously it's a good ride.

5. Bastion takes a strange place here, because it's The indie game that made me sit up & pay attention to games as an art form as a kid whilst simultaneously pulling me loose from the major studio obsession my generation in this country often went through. My indie love followed from The Boy.

4 (and 7) - little compares to the pure experimental joy I got from playing the Just Cause Franchise, especially 2 and 3. They inform my love for a good open world game (and even average ones) more than even Ubisoft games. To me these games & the mechanics they play around with are Whimsy incarnate.

3. RDR2 is quite simply a writing masterpiece. Gameplay wise it's damn good as well - but it's one of those times where you call the VAs just straight up actors. Even today I'm finding out about little flourishes, callbacks and references the writing team made - in doing so they even elevanted RDR1.

2. Omori is one of only 3 games that absolutely rocked me in one way or another for a few days (those being the top 3 on this list). If it wasn't this, it was going to be Undertale for being a similar rock me sort of game- but Omori takes it for reflecting some of my attitudes from a worse time.

1. There's a reason why I keep asking you all to buy and play Wanderstop. That game has the kind of message I think a lot of people in the West need to hear right now, where a push for perfection and ever increasing productivity is paramount to so much of our lives. Plus it's just CHARMING.

Oh dip is that a formative game post? It sure is!

It's funny that despite my somewhat reputation as an Ubisoft game simp, none of them made the cut - a lot of other games just stand out even more to me, which is... entirely on Brand honestly!
