And it's interesting because given that 60 day notice period, we wouldn't expect then any of the layoffs to really come through in the data yet... maybe probationary employees don't have that period?

Thanks for this! We do note but at the very bottom: "Employees on paid leave or receiving ongoing severance pay are counted as employed in the establishment survey."

Yes, we expect it to increase as well. For the 60 day notice period - are you referring to payroll? (+are they getting paid?)

The DC metro area has been hit disproportionally by the fed worker cuts - they've gotten a third of the cuts but only employ roughly a tenth of the federal workforce. (That's as of mid-February - the latest data available at city/state level).

Look up the losses (or gains) in your city πŸ‘‡

Titans Talk: A fireside chat with two of IRE’s founders - Investigative Reporters & Editors Hear from two of IRE’s original founders, Len Downie Jr. and Ed DeLaney, talk about our beginnings and their views of investigative journalism today and tomorrow. March 25 at 6:30 p.m. EDT.

TIL that Indy's own Ed Delaney helped create Investigative Reporters and Editors. For non-journos, it's the main trade organization for investigative journalists (and so much more than that).

5. When frustrated, remind yourself there is value in making data accessible to the public.

4. If you're cobbling data together, figure out a template early. If one dataset is particularly helpful, use that to shape the database's structure.

I remember some changes throughout the conference in the past but can’t remember how many times it tends to happen. But I do usually double check the schedule in the app before I head to a room/session just in case. Maybe someone at @ire-nicar.bsky.social could give more of a sense of frequency.

This is sweet!! 😍 One question - does it pull the latest version of the schedule with any regularity? Sometimes there are some changes so just wondering if it will capture those.
