Villi maximize absorptive surface area in the gut. By using mulitcolor lineage reporters (magenta and yellow), we've been watching cells march up the villus to their ultimate death when they reach the top.

Caco2 cells are human colon adenomacarcinoma cell line - we love them for their robust junction formation and cute microvilli (phalloidin labeling stains F-actin here!). In collaborations with some friends, we are investigating novel regulatory mechanisms of junctional integrity & barrier function
