06.02.2026 01:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Title page and abstract of an open-access journal article on L2 learnersβ use of English dative constructions, outlining a corpus-based study of proficiency effects on double-object vs prepositional-object choices.
Bar charts and scatterplots showing verb-specific distributions of double-object and prepositional-object constructions, and how these patterns vary across CEFR proficiency levels.
Six line graphs showing how learner proficiency interacts with linguistic predictors (e.g. length, animacy, pronominality, verb bias) to influence the probability of choosing the double-object construction.
Our new open-access paper is now published in BLC! Using a learner corpus, we examined whether factors influencing L2 learnersβ choice between double-object (Sam gave Mary a book) and prepositional-object constructions (Sam gave a book to Mary) vary across proficiency levels.

Our new PLOS ONE paper, led by a PhD student co-supervised by @jwgrieve.bsky.social and me, is out! We fine-tuned LLMs per author to create Authorial Language Models, attributing texts via perplexity. The method matches or beats SOTA and offers word-level insights.
