Oh that makes sense, probably don't want to traumatize the MG readers or whack them over the head with the concept of you know, death and mortality. And it's hart to deal with such heavy subjects in short stories, imo, depending on the length

There are definitely different moods, as well! Sometimes I just want to read something cozy with low stakes and very little danger, and sometimes I want to read something where the MC gets ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED and has to be rebuilt piece by piece, you know?

In the paranormal romance with the stalker ex, said ex does try to reclaim his lost love interest and attempt to kill the other main character. But he's dispatched pretty easily.
This kind of makes me want to go back and write in more danger haha!

Ironically after answering the last question with "LET THEM SUFFER", most of my (Leo's) current WIPs are pretty cozy with the worst danger being a stalker ex. I know Jules has some more danger in her romantasy, but she's also asleep (she is not the late night half of the crew lol)

Ooooo as a music person I am immediately *pricked ears* about werewolf violinist/luthier!

Both of us absolutely love putting our characters in danger (both physical and emotional harm) and letting them suffer to get to the comfort at the end. Grievously injured in a battle? Abandoned by someone they trusted? Had to walk all night through the snow? Yes please :D

That's awesome! I have one lying around still (played it up through high school and then got distracted by the clarinet) and you're making me want to get it out and start fiddling around with it again!

Hello all! We're Leo (they're working on three queer romance WIPs) and Jules (she's working on the sequel to her epic romantasy Unmaking Percy and a retelling of a Portuguese fairytale). Too many WIPs between us but the plot bunnies keep coming! #latenightwrite

I write fiction in both past and present tense and this is the danger of having multiple simultaneous WIPs because two are in present and one is in past and I have lost track of how many times I switch into the wrong tense

Nice! I was always in awe of the STEM PhDs and the more quantitative side of things. And very cool that you've gotten into playing music! It's a lot of fun and really gives me some peace when I have the time to do it :)

Oh man I love conveyor belt sushi! I moved away from a city recently and haven't been able to find good sushi in my new town, but maybe I'll need to take a trip to find a conveyor belt place somewhere nearby!

Good to know the feeling never goes away haha! I've been slowly climbing out of the pit of exhaustion and despair but I think it did temporarily break my ability to read for fun and enjoyment

Definitely going to steal this, I've got a WIP in the works that needs a major restructuring (which of course I only figured out after I was finished with the thing) but I've been stalling on basically having to edit the entire thing again. Might need to try the trash draft!

I just finished up my PhD about a year and a half ago and it's been very therapeutic writing this and dealing with some of my leftover PhD angst looool

It's Leo on the account right now, so I'll share about one of my WIPs! It's a cozy, silly enemies to lovers romance between a fiction author and a PhD candidate fighting over the one table in the coffeeshop with access to a power outlet. #weeknightwriters

We both have the summer version of Seasonal Affective Disorder and it really is a struggle! (especially with everyone around you so excited about summertime. Can't wait for the heat to go away and for winter to come again!

Same! We just joined BlueSky a couple weeks ago and it's been great to connect with people here as opposed to just throwing posts out into the void lol

That is the dream! Just having the time to actually be creative and make it into a career (because of course capitalism says I can't just write books without being *monetarily successful at if*) I hope you can find a better balance and some time away from the day job!

Ooooof I feel that so hard. I took an unpaid sick leave from my previous job and even the month I was gone didn't feel like enough. It's tough trying to balance a day job with a creative one!

Ooooh trash draft? Sort of like a "shitty rough draft" only partway through the process? I've never heard the term and I might need to steal it lol!
