White clouds cover a very dark blue sea, barely visible through a few small patches on the lower left. The curve of the Earth can be seen in the upper right, with the blackness of space in the very far right uppermost.
Our first recognizable image of Earth from orbit! Shoutout to Doug K8DP, an amateur radio operator in Michigan, who caught this on slow speed digital video download. The #cubesat is still not ready to tweet from orbit but we're getting there!

Four small black cube satellites are seen floating in space above the Earth, which is mostly swathed in white, fluffy clouds with a few swirling over a bit of dark blue ocean on the upper left. A white arrow points out SilverSat among three other cube sats.
We're up! We were floated free into orbit early this morning from the ISS and our student-led team has already made first contact via ground-based radio, so, yay!

The hard work of building our little #cubesat is done and now it's launched. Some of the middle and high schoolers who made it happen are now in college or even out in the working world, and we're all watching to see if it makes it into orbit safely to tweet pictures to order from space!

A screenshot of the launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida. It shows a mostly white rocket taking off from a white metal launch pad, with white and yellow flames beneath. White smoke billows out to the right. A blue sky with a few white and gray clouds and a calm blue sea are in the background.
We made it into space! Eight years after the first middle and high school kids signed on to build a #cubesat, #NASA included us in a resupply package headed to the International Space Station this week. We hope to tweet from orbit come November - silversat.org for details.
