04.12.2025 18:25 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Those original covers were a HUGE part of what got me into reading. (Though had to beg my parents to let me get them as they were deemed unsuitable - another bonus!) Am so pleased to see them back.

03.12.2025 09:45 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0A pencil written note within a copy of Iris Murdoch’s The Bell recording a readers thoughts on it in attractive but not easy to read handwriting: “Sharply observed if chilly/toned. Dora very well observed and interplay ditto though confusing number of characters and slow pace; often feels like not heading anywhere, tension sacrificed….. Book of morals as much as ideas … prone to longeurs …etc etc
My copy of Murdoch’s The Bell had an earlier life as a library copy labelled “reading group pack” I bought it in a charity shop and benefit from someone’s analysis scribbled in pencil in it. Lovely.

02.12.2025 13:53 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Pb copy of Severed Head by Iris Murdoch
Handwritten inscription: “Far too sophisticated for me I suppose is the answer. Yet I can read it. In a strange way it compels me. I don’t find it all funny but can see how as a play it could be fabulously funny. I think the characters are revolting. It makes me even more sick to think that it’s been written by a woman. Ugh! I’m quite bewildered by it.”
One of my fave finds is this considered lit crit in Severed Head. (Nice ed too)

Cameron Winter at the Roundhouse was one of the best gigs I’ve seen in YEARS (maybe even best since Mark Eitzel @ Bush Hall in 2017). Just fantastic.

30.11.2025 12:49 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0LOVE Alan Ayckbourn’s Season’s Greetings. Saw this as a kid on tv one xmas eve and thought it one of the funniest things I’d ever seen. Great cast (Barbara Flynn, Nicky Henson, Anna Massey, Geoffrey Palmer, Peter Vaughan). Worth a watch just for Geofrey Palmer’s puppet show.

Ordering American Music Club’s Everclear demos on Discogs only for their ex-manager to knock on my door to hand deliver the cd an hour later (“I noticed I’d be passing your flat…”)
