do you need to personally know someone who was assaulted by ICE to stop turning a blind eye to the injustice?

or is it’s easier to remain comfortable in your privilege, not inconvenience yourself with the news, and pretend like what’s happening is okay until it starts affecting you

i dont know if this stems from the fact that they’re white, straight, cis, etc, and don’t surround themselves with diverse people to open their worldview. but isn’t that just basic empathy? do you really need a queer friend just to start giving a fuck about trans rights?

but for a lot of people politics is literally their life or death.
it’s trans people not being allowed to exist.
it’s immigrants being detained in inhumane conditions.
it’s people being shot for protesting and their murderers being protected by the gov’t.
it’s pedophiles not being prosecuted.

i really do hate listening to my coworkers complain about hearing political discussion, that they don’t know enough to care and it doesn’t matter to them.

you can AFFORD not to care. you can afford not to pay attention to the news, and treat politics like it’s too complicated to understand.

Moonbound 🌙 🐈 A new painting I just finished in my series of works called ‘A Starry Place’ where I explore spaces meaningful and nostalgic to me! ✨

MLK was only 39 when he was killed. Growing up, I thought that was old. But I’m 43 now and I’m stunned by the burden he shouldered at such a young age. I’m also a lot more aware of how hard it is, at any age, to carry the hopes and dreams of an oppressed people on your shoulders, as so many do.
