EPA to repeal its own conclusion that greenhouse gases warm the planet and threaten health Known as the endangerment finding, the decision is the legal framework that allows the EPA to regulate emissions. Its reversal could upend many climate change policies.

You can delete findings but you can not delete impacts. Personally, I choose not to turn the other way when things get hard.

Seasonal prediction of springtime tornado activity in the United States using a hybrid model Abstract. Tornado activity in the contiguous United States (CONUS) causes fatalities and financial losses every spring, motivating attempts to skillfully predict springtime tornadoes. Such predictions...

The preprint of my next paper is now available on EGUsphere. Feel free to take a look, hoping to get some feedback on it during the review process.

Very impressed with the research presentations today from senior undergraduate students in @climasillinois.bsky.social
Very well-polished and a good range of difficulty. They are well-prepared for careers and graduate school!

Getting ready to take off for #AMS2026. I am a frequent flyer on Southwest and I am glad to be flying them on the final day of open seating. Going to miss the flexibility though. I am not thrilled about the change.

Not flying down to Houston for #AMS2026 until tomorrow. Given the winter storm, that ended up being a good decision. Should hopefully be a relatively easy travel day tomorrow

I tried to get funding for AMS through 4 or 5 avenues, and every one of them fell through. It feels like a backbreaker, but it’s a reality of the situation right now. Fortunately, I have the ability to fund myself even if it is tough, and hopefully my luck is different for the Madison Summit

A look at a successful real-time effort to reduce flooding in western Washington last week Looking at how federal science and water agencies work together in flood events. Also - flood risk continue in the Pacific Northwest while the rest of the country warms up.

Given tonight’s news the admin wants to disband NCAR, resharing my post from earlier today about the successful reduction of flooding on the Skagit R in WA state. NCAR does foundational R&D that enables my community to do the kinds of important work I talk about here. tinyurl.com/bdebat4m

I would like someone to tell me in as few uncertain terms as possible... is the announcement at NCAR a done deal? Or is a lot of pushback about to take place to try and prevent this?

Things I have learned in the progressional world, especially under an administration that does not care for what you do…
Things don’t go your way a lot more often than they do. And often it doesn’t seem fair. But you have to find ways to keep going when you get put down.

My home state of Indiana may give in to Trump’s pressure and redistrict giving Indiana a 9-0 GOP map, thus silencing 40% of the state. Which makes me very sad not just for the loss of voice in Indiana but also that it may lead to my family leaving the state after 30 years. The idea makes me very sad

Sometimes I need to get out of own head when I think that every research project will get something groundbreaking. When in reality, many projects are just small steps towards a bigger goal, and some projects may even finish as: β€œI tried this, it didn’t work” and that’s still of value

Possibly part of it. My thinking was moreso that having the additional requirements of classes, teaching, lots of meetings, forces me to have a daily routine and fit in research time into all of that.
But this could definitely be part of it
