Vanguard confirmed a $29.5 million settlement on Thursday with a coalition of Republican-led states that had accused the financial giant of conspiring with BlackRock and State Street to drive the coal industry out of business. The agreement blocks Vanguard from supporting efforts to fight climate change. Vanguard agreed not to advocate that any company it invests in “take any particular course of conduct to reduce carbon emissions.” It also vowed not to join climate-action networks, such as Principles for Responsible Investment, which is supported by the United Nations and bills itself as “the world’s catalyst of responsible investment.”

I just blocked two people who were like “we need to see the bodies of blown up children for people to get how serious this is,” and as a former human rights lawyer I cannot tell you how wrong that is.

Do not inflict bystander trauma on people. It will make them shut down and go numb, not wake up.

One disgusting aspect of all this is Trump fundamentally doesn’t care about it at all. He barely knows where any of these places are. He likes cash in brown envelopes and being on TV as Mr Big Important Guy. He’s just willing to pull any lever he thinks might keep that stuff flowing indefinitely.

He knows exactly what’s happening and unless he says otherwise the only conclusion is that he supports whatever his king does.
