I would understand if it was a decently size server for him to promote his channel but like, this literally had around 10 people at it's peak and even then it wasn't super popular/not many people stick with UIMs.

The thing is designed so the way you progress is to have to access a place that gives random rewards. That system is also the same one employed by social media. The alure of TikTok is that you don't know what video you're gonna see next, so you just scroll, and that cycle really catches people

I think what gets misundetstood about lootboxes is that the addictive nature is there when you put money in for a chance at a random reward. If that reward is worth real life money or not is meaningless to how addictive it can be. In fact gacha games seem bigger than CS skins, which sorta proves it.

As much as i like Valve games and Steam has been super useful in my teens by giving me access to video games, it is pretty hard to ignore this.

Worst of all is how they made it the standard for the industry. I know ppl jump on Valve's defence instantly, but on this they 100% deserve the criticism.
