I should also add for the record that the “modern AAA design sensibilities” in question are not pronouns and minorities! Trans folk belong in games!

Also, Bury the Light is just about the coolest character theme in any game ever, and I’ll be kind of shocked if it doesn’t top my Spotify Wrapped this year. Vergil is my GOAT.

I recall reading that DMCVs director wondered before release if there was still room in the gaming market for a game like this. The fact that they held true to the spirit of DMC in spite of the pressure to cater to modern AAA design sensibilities is what made this game special to me.

They simply do not make enough games like Devil May Cry 5. It’s so refreshing to see a team double down on making an experience where there’s nothing to say but “hell yeah!” (Unless you’re a fan of Trish or Lady as actual characters, bc they REALLY got done dirty in this game)
