Sure… but for a city that errs too heavily on the process side way too often, demonstrating a willingness to act a little recklessly (in low stakes scenarios) is not something I’m going to complain much about - even if I disagree with the action.

Truth

Potentially unpopular idea here… but I don’t mind seeing our local government move a little too quickly and too recklessly to tackle a “little” problem.

I wish they were using this power to add diverters instead of take them away, but it’s refreshing to see action over process for once.

Some people (not me) think more convenient police movement is central to street cleanup.

The last time I went to the Yammy the bartender had an actual rat on her shoulder while she was working.

Nothing Evander complained about at the end of last season was addressed or changed. He went away, but the problems remained…

This is demonstrated through strong partnerships with companies sharing similar goals, including DeSantis Landscapes. Food waste in the building is turned into soil that DeSantis Landscapes uses throughout the Rose Quarter campus, contributing to the 1 million pounds of material diverted from landfills annually. The Moda Center Environmental Services crew post-sorts after every event, going through the items of every bag of waste and properly sorting materials into the appropriate streams.

The Moda Center is a national leader in sustainability within the NBA and across the entertainment industry.

Seems like a smart idea - maybe if the taxpayer money stopped coming they would move towards a model like that.

When a taxpayer funded public university needs a new arena, it’s totally normal to go to the business community and solicit private money to pay for it.

When a private, for-profit company like the NBA needs a new arena, it’s totally normal to ask the government for public money to pay for it.

Why?

In 2010 I was in my terminal architecture school studio taught by Allied Works and our project was a Jumptown-inspired Rose Quarter building.

I wish all those projects were captured somewhere. Mine wasn’t great, but the studio produced some great ideas collectively.

SB 110 is not a 'jock tax'. Jock taxes raise money to benefit the state/city. This diverts money from the state to a [still unnamed] billionaire.

Too Many High Schools

We have an idea: instead of worrying about Portland having "too many" nice remodeled high schools,

Jefferson has low enrollment right now, but a 90% on time graduation rate for Black students, and it's located right across the street from PCC making it the best HS for getting college credit. My kid is in college today because Jeff made them see they could be successful.
