The reason anyone can afford a centrally-located 1-bedroom apartment on a record store clerk's pay is because thousands of your neighbors choose to live in buildings built after 1960.

Sure… but for a city that errs too heavily on the process side way too often, demonstrating a willingness to act a little recklessly (in low stakes scenarios) is not something I’m going to complain much about - even if I disagree with the action.

Truth

Potentially unpopular idea here… but I don’t mind seeing our local government move a little too quickly and too recklessly to tackle a “little” problem.

I wish they were using this power to add diverters instead of take them away, but it’s refreshing to see action over process for once.

Some people (not me) think more convenient police movement is central to street cleanup.

The last time I went to the Yammy the bartender had an actual rat on her shoulder while she was working.

Nothing Evander complained about at the end of last season was addressed or changed. He went away, but the problems remained…

Seems like a smart idea - maybe if the taxpayer money stopped coming they would move towards a model like that.

When a taxpayer funded public university needs a new arena, it’s totally normal to go to the business community and solicit private money to pay for it.

When a private, for-profit company like the NBA needs a new arena, it’s totally normal to ask the government for public money to pay for it.

Why?

In 2010 I was in my terminal architecture school studio taught by Allied Works and our project was a Jumptown-inspired Rose Quarter building.

I wish all those projects were captured somewhere. Mine wasn’t great, but the studio produced some great ideas collectively.

It irks me the way Portland Diamond Project has co-opted and redefined "jock tax" and the local media is just running with it, without question.

SB 110 is not a 'jock tax'. Jock taxes raise money to benefit the state/city. This diverts money from the state to a [still unnamed] billionaire.
