I learned two major things since my last post on this subject:
- Krita's tool wheel is fuckin sick
- I found how to make other pieces of software only accept what inputs I want them to in this python daemon

i have ways around this. i haven't checked the settings in krita yet (which seems way more user-friendly), and even if that doesn't let me do what i want, i still know python and how to use xbindkeys.

the context for this is long and arduous to explain

the TL;DR is GIMP has hard-coded answers to the question of what's supposed to happen when the user presses the stylus buttons on a tablet, completely ignoring any settings from the desktop environment
