The November issue of AECT features an article on microplastics in fish from an urban lake in which the authors found greater amounts of MPs in herbivorous fish relative to carnivorous fish. The authors attributed this to the consumption of MPs adsorbed to aquatic plants. #science

The authors showed that the electrical gradient across the gills between the fish and water indicates osmoregulatory stress, and DOC and pH modify the toxicity of saline conditions.🧪1/

Jan '25 AECT issue includes a paper describing the toxicity & bioaccumulation of 226Ra in daphnia. A nominal concentration of 50 Bq/L reduced survival and 226Ra was found to bioaccumulate. However, if mines in Canada meet effluent guidelines, it's unlikely that downstream effects will be observed.🧪
