Flow Reduction in a Pesticide-Exposed Stream Mesocosm Affects Emerging Aquatic Insects and Alters Riparian Spider Communities - Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology Water scarcity can intensify streamflow reduction, alter hydromorphology, increase chemical pollution, and disrupt resource exchange between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. However, the effects of...

The August issue of AECT features an article on the effects on invertebrate communities of low flows in a stream mesocosm exposed to pesticides. Low-flow conditions caused a reduction in the abundance of EPT insect larvae and a web-building spider. See article here:

The July issue of AECT features an article on the distribution of organic and inorganic contaminants in the supra-glacial debris from 16 glaciers in Italy. The contaminants deposited in the glaciers from atmospheric transport and local sources could be remobilized due to climate change. See link ⬇️πŸ§ͺ

Environmental Persistence and Toxicity of Weathered Wildland Fire Retardants to Rainbow Trout - Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology Long-term fire retardants are employed to combat and control wildfires by altering the way fuels burn, and they continue to decrease fire intensity after water in the retardant solution has evaporated...

The AECT May issue features an article that shows that fire retardants applied in forested wildlands persist in the environment and are toxic to fish when flushed into streams during rain events, although the underlying substrate may alter the toxicity of these products. Link here:

The AECT April issue features an article on osmoregulatory stress in fish caused by salinization of natural waters. The authors showed that the electrical gradient across the gills between the fish and water indicates osmoregulatory stress, and DOC and pH modify the toxicity of saline conditions.πŸ§ͺ1/

Jan '25 AECT issue includes a paper describing the toxicity & bioaccumulation of 226Ra in daphnia. A nominal concentration of 50 Bq/L reduced survival and 226Ra was found to bioaccumulate. However, if mines in Canada meet effluent guidelines, it's unlikely that downstream effects will be observed.πŸ§ͺ

Hi Mae, I would like to make sure we are added to the Science feed. There isn't a specific place for ecotoxicology, but is likely best under Environmental Science. We are a Springer Nature journal that has been published since 1973. link.springer.com/journal/244. Thanks in advance!

The AECT Nov. issue features, in our special collection on "Contaminants in Birds", an article on the levels of POPs in serum of bald eagle nestlings near 5 dammed rivers in the USA. Although POPs were higher in bald eagles located below the dams, reproductive success did not seem to be affected. πŸ§ͺ

Hello Dani, I didn't see a moderator that seemed to fit Environmental Toxicology, so am asking that our journal be added to the Science Feed. The webpage for the journal is link.springer.com/journal/244 We will be posting a highlighted article for each of our 8 issues per year and open access link.
