The July issue of AECT features an article on the distribution of organic and inorganic contaminants in the supra-glacial debris from 16 glaciers in Italy. The AECT May issue features an article that shows that fire retardants applied in forested wildlands persist in the environment and are toxic to fish when flushed into streams during rain events, although the underlying substrate may alter the toxicity of these products. Link here:

The AECT April issue features an article on osmoregulatory stress in fish caused by salinization of natural waters. The authors showed that the electrical gradient across the gills between the fish and water indicates osmoregulatory stress, and DOC and pH modify the toxicity of saline conditions.🧪1/

The AECT Feb. issue includes an article on PFAS contamination in freshwater fish collected near former & current military bases with a history of using AFFF foams. PFOS, the foaming agent in AFFF, was the dominant PFAS compound in fish from downstream sites. #science 🧪

Jan '25 AECT issue includes a paper describing the toxicity & bioaccumulation of 226Ra in daphnia. A nominal concentration of 50 Bq/L reduced survival and 226Ra was found to bioaccumulate. However, if mines in Canada meet effluent guidelines, it's unlikely that downstream effects will be observed.🧪

The AECT Nov. issue features, in our special collection on "Contaminants in Birds", an article on the levels of POPs in serum of bald eagle nestlings near 5 dammed rivers in the USA. Although POPs were higher in bald eagles located below the dams, reproductive success did not seem to be affected. 🧪
