Don't forget that you can catch Deep Impact (Ep 11) and all of our other episodes over on Apple Podcasts and Spotify too!

In two weeks we will be back with our Season 1 Finale. We wanted to do something special so we reached back to the 1960s for a classic, reviewing it only 24 years too late

Deep Impact Cities fall, but they are rebuilt. And heroes die, but they are remembered. We honor them with every podcast we record. Our planet, our home.

This week on Popcorn Science, we go back to the summer of the killer asteroids. In 1998, both โ€œDeep Impactโ€ and โ€œArmageddonโ€ hit the big screens. We cover the lesser known (but better) movie as we discuss comets, impacts, and Elijah Woodโ€™s obsession with rings. popcornscience.ca/deep-impact/...

An image of a martian landscape, handcoloured on twelve sheets of paper. The colours range from pink (representing the brightest areas) to black (representing the darkest areas). The landscape is mostly blue and purple, representing a mostly flat area with some large buttes to the right side. At the bottom right corner, the back of the Curiosity rover can be seen. All twelve sheets of paper are taped together, then taped onto a white cinderblock wall. The colouring styles of each sheet are different, as they were all done by different people. Some are a series of horizontal lines, some are scribbled in, and some are fully coloured in.

This summer marks 60 years since the first detailed image was sent back from another planet (Mariner 4). The scientists on Earth were so keen to see it that they hand coloured the telemetry. In their honour, today @conorwhayes.bsky.social led our group to do the same with a more recent mars pic!
