Condescending remarks about a lack of media literacy on the left are a bit rich coming from people who have never bothered to read reams of social scientific research on their own fields, or any others, but rather see themselves as oracles of truth whom the hoi polloi dare not criticize.

So, yes, if politicians and decision makers' thought process is important for explaining political choices, you do want to print those; but you can report on them, not offer them unedited free PR spots. Even straight reporting requires choices, framing, deeply political decisions. Own it.

Also, it's a bit embarrassing when people in powerful fields don't bother to consider the sociology and politics of their own fields, and buy their own press releases about being neutral, politics-free, and a class-free meritocratic space.
