My enemies call me Death.” “Little death?” The dragon laughed, a deep laugh that rippled out of him like the sound of boulders grinding together. “Death will find you here, tiny pirate. Treasure-stealer. Death-seeker.” Jack shrugged. “We all gotta go sometime.” The dragon watched him, frowning. Jack dug through his pack again and pulled out a green apple. “So this is your game,” the dragon said. “Run out of ships to raid so you’ve come to raid my hoard?” Jack sank his teeth into the apple, lips closing around the bite as he sucked out the juice, then pulled it away, crunching away on a generous mouthful. “Nah, not really,” he said. “But you were right about me wanting to see the dragon.” “Why?” “Dunno,” Jack said, taking another bite. “Sounded fun.”
