Done 6 months gardening in 2 hours of sunshine today. Basically shoving sprouting bulbs into pots. That’ll do.

Me in December 1995 in my parents’ living room in Nottinghamshire with my nan, wearing some cheap slippers and a t-shirt advertising Kim Deal’s lo-fi post-Breeders band The Amps. Yes, my legs are this long, but they are balanced out by the fact that my torso measures only 1.7 inches from top to bottom.

I worked fucking hard on the writing of this piece & just as hard on the editing but I feel it was worth it. It’s about my life in 1995, my recent autoimmune diagnosis, transport, time, a great Norwegian film and many other things. I hope 2 or 3 of you might read it: www.tom-cox.com/an-in-depth-...

Imagine devoting your entire career to selling the idea that the British public hates wokery and is clamouring for radical right wing populism, only to then be defeated in an actual election by the most left wing possible coalition of politicians and activists in the country.

It's got to hurt

Labour has forgotten who its voters are And that's the real story of student loans

The student loans system is scandalous. Labour have made it worse and allowed the Tories (who built it) an opening because it's the same old story: Lab forgets who its voters are. It doesn't like the coalition it has and hankers for another.

New substack from me.

Can you do me a quick favour today? ✍️

The government is finally asking if they should ban cages for hens in the UK. πŸ”πŸ” Lobbyists are trying to block it, so we need huge numbers to show them that the public wants this ban NOW: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/en...

So, for reasons best known to its useless AI mods, Facebook has deleted the Obverse Books page, and removed all 1000+ followers. We've created a new page, so if you're on FB and want to keep up with Obverse news there, rather than here, this is the new link:

It is absolute and utter neglect to let this come this close to the wire just as the US has let most of its overseas broadcasting shutter.

I came across a thread full of Brits supporting Donald Trump in his lawsuit against the BBC. Essentially, they want to see it destroyed because they don't like its coverage of domestic politics. So, I asked Deepseek for a list of every service that the BBC provides. This is why I pay my licence fee.

Stop Palantir taking over our public services! Our public services aren’t for a secretive profit-hungry US tech firm. Sign the petition to tell the Government to scrap all contracts with secretive US tech firm Palantir.

This morning I posted our petition to get Palantir out of our NHS and our public services.

Over 40,000 people have now signed it - thank you.

Please do keep sharing!

Guardian view on Sir Jim Ratcliffe: Britain does not need political lectures from a billionaire tax exile | Editorial Editorial: Comments on the β€˜colonisation of the UK’ by the co-owner of Manchester United were erroneous, crass and a gif

In 2020, Jim Ratcliffe moved his fortune to Monaco, saving himself an estimated Β£4 billion in tax.

In the same year, immigrants in the UK contributed around Β£20 billion in tax.

That says it all.

Point of no return: a hellish β€˜hothouse Earth’ getting closer, scientists say Continued global heating could set irreversible course by triggering climate tipping points, but most people unaware

β€œThe public and politicians were largely unaware of the risk of passing the point of no return, the researchers said.”

I don’t see how they can be unaware, unless they were deliberately avoiding it, or stupid.

Last night our local news, at least the news our postcode gets, was pretty good. A ship had been rescued and also a horse had been retrieved from a ditch. Crew and horse all good. We are nowhere near the sea or the ditch but it was heartwarming anyway.
