Gaza Sunbirds has a mobile cinema where they move between camps providing much needed joy for the children of Gaza by showing kids films such as Ratatouille.
This is a much needed respite for all of the kids in Gaza, and with our help, we can make a difference. Donation link is in the comments.
this is true now and has been true for a century:
if we don't create a society that isn't dependent on fossil fuels,
but instead uses alternative energy sources *and* uses drastically less energy overall,
most people on the planet are going to die as a direct result
I can only imagine. The closest i've experienced is grocery store lines in the aftermath of a hurricane, or lines for wood before a hurricane. Saw many fights in the latter, and one time in one of those grocery store lines someone called the cops because they didn't like the way the line worked.

btw, in Schneckloth v. Bustamante (1973) the supreme court set the standard that whether a person knows they have a right to say "no" to a search isn't dispositive of whether their consent was voluntary, & that it would be too burdensome on cops to tell us we can say no.
they don't want us to know!
These are concentration camps. Don't think that these aren't concentration camps simply because there aren't gas chambers. The Nazis began to build and operate camps in 1933, but it wasn't until 1939 that they began gassing their prisoners. This is the path we're on.

07.03.2026 21:44 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0when asked about why they consented to a search when they knew they had drugs or weapons, most people say it's because they didn't think they had a choice and hoped the cops would go easier on them. this is sound logic if you don't know your rights. so we need more people to know their rights.

07.03.2026 21:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0also, study aside, ask a public defender how many of they clients consent to stupid shit. it's probably gonna be "most"
07.03.2026 21:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0yes but consent is about the stupidest thing they could lie about when all they need is a reasonable suspicion or exigente circumstances and i don't see a lot of folks contesting that they didn't consent in court cases. seems extremely rare compared to all the other lies.

have i ever consented to a search? no. have i had my person, my car, and containers on me searched many times? yes.
i'm not saying knowing your rights will stop them searching but A. it can, B. it can make it harder for what they find to be admissible in court, and C. why give them permission???
Publicly available data from the Los Angeles Police Department in 2006 indicate that police requested consent from 16,228 drivers to search their vehicles, and 16,225 (99.98%) agreed. Oren Bar-Gill & Barry Friedman, Taking Warrants Seriously, 106 Nw. U. L. Rev. 1609, 1662 2012). "[M]ultiple scholars have estimated that consent searches comprise more than 90% of all warrantless searches by police ***" Alafair S. Burke, Consent Searches and Fourth Amendment Reasonableness, 67 Fla. L. Rev. 509, 511 2016).
as a friend pointed out, i'm sure this number is not completely accurate, but even taking that into account: fuck.
we gotta find more ways to educate folks on their basic rights
Newly released footage shows an ICE agent killing Rubin Ray Martinez, 23, in his car in Texas.
"He was shot at point-blank range through his side window by an ICE agent who was in no danger."
