I just found out that Alice Wong, an incredible disability rights activist and author, passed away on Friday.
I had the incredible privilege last year to be one of the narrators from her audiobook, Disability Intimacy, produced by @penguinrandomhouse.bsky.social. It was an honor of a lifetime.

These resources—RMMFI, CEDS, SCORE, SBA, and even libraries—have made a big difference in my small business journey as a voice actor. What resources have helped you grow your business?

Your local library is more than books—it’s a goldmine for small business owners. Many libraries offer databases, workshops, and even free meeting spaces. You’d be surprised what’s available!

The SBA (Small Business Administration) has been a go-to for me. They offer funding options, guides, and resources for small businesses at any stage. Worth checking out!

Nationally, SCORE Mentors is an incredible free resource. Experienced professionals offer mentoring and workshops to help small businesses thrive. I’ve worked with a couple of mentors, and they’ve been great for accountability.

Another Colorado resource for small business owners: CEDS Finance. I got a small business loan through them, plus invaluable guidance. If you're in Colorado, they’re worth a look.

If you’re in Colorado, check out RMMFI (Rocky Mountain MicroFinance Institute). They offer training, mentorship, and funding for entrepreneurs. I did their 3-month program—it changed the way I approach my business!

Running a small business isn’t for the faint of heart. As a voice actor, I’m technically a small business owner too, and I’ve found some amazing resources that make the journey a little easier. I'm going to share a small business resource each day this week that helped me build my business!

I’m setting action-based goals this year instead of results-based ones, since those work a little better for my brain. What about you—do you set goals based on actions, results, or both?

What skills are you building this year? I’m using at least 4 hours a week for VO skill development in 2025. That could mean voice-over practice, working on dialects, learning audio engineering, or anything that helps me grow as an actor!
