In fact, it's the same thing that makes the sky blue -- Rayleigh scattering. The blue and violent wavelengths get scattered, leaving the yellows and reds to reach out eyes!

Did you know our sun isn't actually yellow? It releases light across the spectrum and is this pretty much pure white from space (peaking in the green actually!).

The only reason it appears yellow to us is because it's being filtered through Earth's atmosphere.
